For surveying ground-dwelling arthropods.

Consists of a long heavy bag, which can be closed at the bottom. At the top there is a sleeve, and part way down there is a sifter which is used to sort the material and separate off larger insects - typically beetles.

Removal of larger pieces of leaf litter etc. from the top of the sieve also concentrates the sample that goes through. Smaller insects can be retrieved from the bag, below the sieve.
